Recently, the International College organized a cultural exchange activity for over ten international students, taking them to Lishui Central Hospital. The event, themed “Chinese and Foreign Youth Talk: United in the Journey of Medicine,” marked the first stop in the college’s series of activities focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) cultural exchange.

During the visit, the students first toured the hospital’s TCM Hall. Guided by professional pharmacists, they learned about fundamental TCM theories and diagnostic approaches, with a special focus on Lishui’s regional herbal specialties—the “Lishui Nine Herbs”—as well as Zhejiang Province’s renowned “Eight Herbs.” Through interactive discussions, the students gained insights into the wisdom of TCM in utilizing locally sourced medicinal materials.

Next, the students became hands-on participants, immersing themselves in TCM therapies such as auricular acupoint pressing with seeds, cupping, tuina massage, and acupuncture. These hands-on experiences gave them a vivid sense of the unique charm of traditional medicine. Hospital staff also provided syndrome differentiation and personalized treatment, along with convenient decoction services, demonstrating the efficiency and thoughtfulness of TCM care.

At the Chinese pharmacy, the students observed the intelligent dispensing process for instant TCM granules, watched traditional herb weighing and packaging techniques, and sampled Job’s tears and tangerine peel tea, known for its spleen-strengthening and dampness-removing effects. Through these activities, they experienced both the heritage and innovation of TCM culture.

At the end of the event, Chinese and foreign students and medical staff engaged in discussions comparing their respective medical cultures.

This activity not only broadened international students’ understanding of TCM culture but also laid a solid foundation for promoting the global dissemination of TCM and deepening cross-cultural exchanges.
