In order to promote the all-around development of international students in China, and in accordance with the Regulations on the Administration of International Students in Schools (Order No. 42), jointly issued by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Public Security, the Regulations on the Management of Students in Regular Higher Education Institutions (Order No. 41) by the Ministry of Education, the Code of Conduct for Students in Higher Education Institutions (Teaching [2005] No. 5) by the Ministry of Education, as well as the Implementation Measures for the Administration of International Student Enrollment and Education at Lishui University (Provisional) (Document [2018] No. 33 by Lishui University), and in combination with the actual situation of Lishui university, this method has been formulated.
I.This method applies to international students enrolled at the University, and the evaluation results shall serve as an important basis for student awards and commendations.
II. Comprehensive Assessment Methodology
i. The evaluation shall be conducted through a point-based system.
ii.The formula for calculating the total points for the comprehensive assessment is as follows:
Total Points of Comprehensive Assessment = Academic Performance Points × 70% + Conduct I (Comprehensive Attendance) Points × 20% + Conduct II (Dormitory Evaluation) × 10% + Quality Points
III. Scoring Factors and Standards for Comprehensive Assessment
(1) Academic Performance Evaluation
The academic performance evaluation is based on the student’s coursework, including the grades of all compulsory, elective, and practical courses (including retaken courses) during the evaluation period, calculated using the following formula:
Academic Performance Points = Total Course Grades (within the evaluation period) ÷ Quantity of Taken Courses
Explanation:
i.The academic performance of international students shall be based on the final grades recorded in the academic system.
ii.For courses graded on a five-level scale, the grades shall be converted to a percentage scale: Excellent = 92, Good = 82, Average = 72, Pass = 62, Fail = 52.
(2) Conduct I (Comprehensive Attendance) Evaluation
Attendance for international students is divided into course attendance and weekly sign-in attendance. The comprehensive attendance points for the evaluation period shall be calculated using the following formula:
Comprehensive Attendance Points = Course Attendance × 60% + Weekly Sign-In Attendance × 40%
Explanation:
i.Course attendance includes the attendance of all courses during the evaluation period, based on ISD statistical data. During graduation internships and thesis periods, if there is no feedback on attendance from internship units or supervisors, the average course attendance of all students with recorded attendance shall be applied.
ii.Weekly sign-in attendance refers to the student’s weekly check-ins at the ISD office during the evaluation period. On-campus students are required to check in once a week, while students living off-campus or engaged in on-campus graduation design shall check in three times a week.
(3) Conduct II (Dormitory Evaluation) Assessment
The points for dormitory evaluation during the evaluation period is calculated using the following formula:
Dormitory Evaluation Points = Total Dormitory Evaluation Points ÷ Quantity of Inspections
Explanation:
i.Dormitory evaluation points are based on the scores announced by the International Student Management Office.
ii.Points deducted during dormitory evaluation may be reflected in the quality points.
(4) Quality Evaluation
The method for calculating quality points can be found in the Lishui University Assessment Guidelines for International Student On- and Off-Campus Activities (Competitions).
IV. Organisation, Procedures, and Supervision
(1) The International Student Department is responsible for organising and implementing the comprehensive evaluation of international students.
(2) The comprehensive evaluation results of the previous semester shall be announced each semester. The results shall not be changed once publicised.
(3) During the publicity period, students may supervise the comprehensive evaluation results. If students have objections to the evaluation results, they shall submit a written appeal to the International Student Department. If the facts clearly warrant a change in the comprehensive assessment results, ISD shall notify the student. Once the publicity period has ended, any revised results shall not be re-announced.
V. Supplementary Provisions
(1) The method is subject to interpretation by the International Student Department.
(2) This method shall be implemented from the date of publication.
